YANGON: The death toll from massive flooding in Myanmar in the wake of Typhoon Yagi has doubled to 226, as the UN warned as many as 630,000 people could be in need of help.

SIBU: Kanowit police opened fire on an aggressive wanted man, hitting him in the thigh, after he injured a policeman with a karambit earlier.

"As a result of the attack, the policeman suffered serious injuries to his left arm and abdomen," he said here on Tuesday .At around 5pm on Monday, DSP Dennis said he led a police team and tracked the suspect to a passenger boat. "For security reasons and in self-defence, we fired at the suspect, hitting him in the right thigh," he said.Both the suspect and injured policeman were sent to Hospital Kanowit and later referred to Hospital Sibu for further treatment, he added.
