Fire chars 2 acres in Tijuana River Valley riverbed [Breaking]

Firefighters were battling a fire in thick brush in a Tijuana River Valley riverbed Sunday afternoon, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department officials.

The blaze had charred 2 acres as of just before 4 p.m., with no structures threatened, officials said. Two helicopters were dropping water on the fire, which was reported about 1:40 p.m. near the intersection of Monument Road and Saturn Boulevard, officials said.Officials said the brush was thick and made it difficult for firefighters on the ground to access the fire. Among the resources assigned to the blaze were engines with off-road capabilities and hand crews.

Deputy Fire Chief Brian Raines told OnScene TV a few horses and a group near a pond were evacuated from the area. An equestrian facility and horse boarding stables are located nearby.
