KUALA LUMPUR: The Fire and Rescue Department responded to an early morning fire at a construction site at Taman Duta here on Tuesday (May 5).

Operations Commander Nurul Jumaatullaily Nadirah Ibrahim said the operations centre received a distress call at 1.02am.

"We dispatched 48 firemen, four fire engines, three rapid intervention motorcycles, two water tankers, and emergency medical rescue services from the Sentul, Sri Hartamas, and Hang Tuah fire stations, ” she said. She added in a statement that firemen arrived at the scene along Jalan Khidmat Usaha in Taman Duta and found four shipping containers on fire.

Nurul added that two of the containers were being used as living quarters for workers while the other two were used as a canteen and storage area. "The fire engulfed a 10,000 square foot area but no casualties were reported. We managed to put out the fire at around 3.15am," she said, adding that the cause of the fire was being investigated.
