KUALA LUMPUR City Hall (DBKL) has been instructed to work closely with geologists and infrastructure experts to assess and reduce any risk of a similar sinkhole in the future, says Minister in the Prime Minister Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa.

KUALA LUMPUR: The final appeal decision of former Sabah infrastructure development minister Datuk Peter Anthony to overturn his conviction and sentence for falsifying documents related to a maintenance and service contract at Universiti Malaysia Sabah will be announced by the Court of Appeal on Nov 27.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin informed Bernama of the date when contacted on Monday . Peter's lawyer, Datuk Nicholas Kow Eng Chuan, also confirmed the date. On Aug 1, the involved parties completed their submissions before a three-judge panel of the Court of Appeal comprising Datuk Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim, Mohamed Zaini Mazlan, and Datuk Azmi Ariffin.

This marks Peter's final appeal after the High Court on April 18 last year dismissed his appeal to set aside the conviction and the three-year prison sentence and RM50,000 fine imposed by the Sessions Court on May 26, 2022.Peter, as managing director of Asli Jati Sdn Bhd, was accused of falsifying a letter from the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UMS dated June 9, 2014, by including false statements with the intent to deceive.

The offence was allegedly committed at the Office of the Principal Private Secretary to the Prime Minister, Perdana Putra building, Putrajaya, between June 13 and Aug 21, 2014, under Section 468 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years imprisonment and a fine.- Bernama
