A Filipino scientist in Iloilo City has discovered an antimicrobial compound that can be used as potential beta-lactamase inhibitors to formulate new antibiotics.
“Ang compund po na aming natuklasan ay isang potential beta-lactamase inhibitor, ito yung hinahalo sa mga mura at mahihinang antibiotics para maging mabisa ito laban sa infection,” said the scientist who made the discovery, Dr. Julius Adam Lopez.
“Ang kinaibahan po ng aming compound na aming natuklasan ay ang istraktura po ito, ito po ay iba sa mga existing na beta-lactamase inhibitor sa merkado, ibig sabihin po ito po ay maaring isang bagong gamot,” he said. “Kung mapapatunayan po natin sa pamamagitan ng mga susunod pang experimento na mabisa ito, hindi lang po Pilipinas ang makikinabang kundi ang buong mundo,” he said.
