NEW YORK CITY - Pinarangalan ng tanggapan ni Filipino-American New York State Assemblyman Steven Raga ang isang Filipino activist dahil sa kaniyang dedikasyon na itaguyod ang karapatan ng LGBTQIA+ community.

Sa isang simpleng seremonya, personal na inabot ni Raga ang sertipikasyon ng pagkilala kay Elton Lugay, isang immigrant sa Amerika na tubong Cebu.

Ilan lang sa mga inorganisa ni Lugay ay ang kauna-unahang transgender pageant para sa empowerment at visibility para sa LGBTQIA+ community. Sa kaniyang pahayag, sinabi ni Lugay na bagama't kinikilala na ng lipunan ang LGBTQIA+ community, nanatili pa rin daw ang diskriminasyon. "As we celebrate our victories, let us also remember the battles we continue to fight. Our community spans across the globe, and in many places, LGBTQ+ individuals still face discrimination, prejudice and violence," dagdag pa niya.
