Filipino cyclist Ariana Dormitorio Evangelista tested positive for a banned substance in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
The International Testing Agency reported on Wednesday that a blood and a urine sample collected from Evagelista 'has returned Adverse Analytical Findings for the non-specified prohibited substance erythropoietin according to the Prohibited List of the World Anti-Doping Agency .'The ITA added that Evangelista has been placed under provisional suspension.
The website noted that some athletes improperly use synthetic erythropoietin 'to boost their performance because EPO increases the availability of oxygen to their muscles.'The cyclist has stayed mum on the issue but the Philippine Cycling Federation has released a statement on Thursday, expressing support to the Filipino mountain bike rider.
