FIFA Makes Decision On Sundowns-Yanga CAFCL 2nd Leg Ref
FIFA has taken a major decision regarding the referee who was in charge of the second leg of Mamelodi Sundowns and Young Africans' CAF Champions League quarter-final.
FIFA has made a big decision regarding the referee who was in charge of the second leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-final between Mamelodi Sundowns and Young Africans. The 32-year-old did not award what, for many, appeared to be a goal during Masandawana's recent encounter against Yanga at Loftus Versfeld, when a Stephane Aziz Ki strike in the 58th minute was ruled to not have completely crossed the goal line.
Aggrieved by the decision, the Tanzanian giants lodged a complaint to CAF about the match result and requested that action be taken against the individual who ruled against giving the goal. While Africa's football governing body deliberates on the matter, FIFA has decided that Beida will be one of the referees from Africa who will be officiating at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.
The north African official, who was also in charge of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final between Ivory Coast and Nigeria, is among 12 referees who will represent the continent during the competition., he will be joined by Karboubi Bouchraw, Mahmood Ismail, Diana Chkotesha, Faitha Jermoumi, Elvis Noupue, Stephen Yiembe, Mahmoud Ashour, Lahlou Benbraham, Ahmed Abdoulrazack, Emiliano Dos Santos and Shamirah Nabadda at the global showpiece's football tournament later this year.
