Ferrari teases new Le Mans Hypercar ahead of 2023 WEC season start

Ferrari has been testing its Le Mans Hypercar

The changes introduced a new Hypercar class to replace the previous kings of sports car racing, the outlandishly fast and ferociously expensive LMP1 prototypes. There’s also a more affordable class that will run alongside the Hypercar class called LMdH, which uses some specification parts to help reduce complexity and reign-in costs.

“When we decided to come back with a prototype racer, we decided to come back with a true Ferrari,” explains Coletta. “For this reason, we chose to come back in LMH. Because to be a true Ferrari we need to make everything; the engine, the aerodynamics, the electrical power, the suspension, the gearbox. Of course, this will mean our car is more complicated but this is our choice.”

Ferrari also launches a new GT contender next year, with the 296 GT3 replacing the wonderful 488. While based on the road car, the 296 GT3 ditches the hybrid element of its powertrain, as per the regulations, somewhat undermining the “win on Sunday, sell on Monday” link. Will the new Ferrari Hypercar use any technology transfer from Maranello’s road cars?
