Michael Stout, 31, of Cleveland, was scheduled to begin trial Monday on charges of felonious assault on a peace officer, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting arrest and other weapons violations, according to the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force. Stout did not show up for a court appearance earlier this month.
Authorities say Stout is accused of stabbing officer Ryan Tieber in the head and face on Jan. 13, 2021, during a traffic stop. Police reportedly began chasing Stout’s vehicle at about 2 a.m. on Interstate 77 in Broadview Heights. The chase ended in Independence near the Rockside Road exit. Stout got out of the car and ran across the north and south lanes of the interstate, police say. Tieber and another officer from Independence ran after Stout. The officers tried to detain Stout, but he cut Tieber in the face and head several times.Authorities say Stout is about 5-foot-8 and 190 pounds.
