Another independent federal MP is facing legal action from a disgruntled staffer.
Just three months after Teal MP Monique Ryan settled a lawsuit with former Chief of Staff Sally Rugg – who claimed she was forced to work unreasonably long hours – Ms Sharkie is now facing action in the Federal Court.
A source says if Ms Slaughter’s case goes to trial, many of those who work closely with Ms Sharkie would be called to give evidence.Ms Slaughter claims that after complaining about her workload, Ms Sharkie cut her hours and took away some of her regular duties, telling her “in a terse and sharp manner” that if she didn’t like it, she could leave.
Ms Slaughter claims the supervisor rearranged her ergonomically designed workstation, repeatedly reprimanded her for aspects of her work, ordered her not to discuss work matters with colleagues, wrongly accused her of taking long lunch breaks, threatened to issue her with a written warning and denied her Christmas leave application.
