KUCHING: The Federal Government will work with Sarawak to repair damaged Jiwa Murni and logging roads in the state before Christmas this year, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Deputy Prime Minister said the repair works involve about 578km of roads and would be funded by the Rural and Regional Development Ministry and implemented together with the state government.
"It is important to upgrade these roads to maintain connectivity in rural areas. What is important is that the implementation must be done before Christmas, not only because of the celebrations but also to avoid the year-end monsoon season," he said. Jiwa Murni roads were built by the Armed Forces to improve connectivity in Sarawak's rural areas, either by upgrading logging roads into rural roads or constructing new roads and connecting them to existing roads.
This would enable follow-up action to be taken, he said, particularly for long-planned projects which had not been implemented yet."If there is any cost increase in terms of implementation, we will discuss it with the Economy and Finance ministries.
