Florida Atlantic used a pair of first-half runs to take 40-33 lead over San Diego State at Saturday’s Final Four game at NRG Stadium. The ninth-seeded Owls scored the game’s first five points, worrying a partisan crowd at the Houston Texans’ home football stadium. FAU chipped away at SDSU’s lead. The Aztecs lost the lead at the 7-minute mark, then watched as the high-flying Owls from Boca Raton flew ahead. A 12-2 run behind some sharp shooting, taking a 40-30 lead with minute left before halftime. Keshad Johnson’s 3-pointer just before halftime made it a seven-point game.
FAU is led offensively by Nick Boyd, who has nine points on 3 3-pointers, and Giancarlo Rosaho, who has six points while shooting 3-for-3 from the field. Matt Bradley leads all scorers with 11 points at the break, followed by Nathan Mensah’s seven points on 3-of-5 shooting. No other Aztec has more than five points.
