FAIRBANKS, Alaska - A sledding accident near Deep Freeze Court in Fairbanks on Monday ended tragically with a 10-year-old child losing his life.
Around 5 p.m. Alaska State Troopers received a 911 call reporting that a pickup had collided with a sled carrying three juvenile boys, ages six to 10 years old, as they were sledding down their driveway into the road. The driver of the pickup took evasive action to avoid hitting the children, and drove into a snowbank. The three boys were pinned under the pickup truck.
All three boys were brought to a Fairbanks area hospital for treatment. One boy was declared dead at the hospital, another was medevaced to Seattle for treatment, and the third is being treated in Fairbanks for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup truck, who is not related to the children, was not impaired and remained on the scene.Iditarod Update: Moose encounter leaves dog injured; Holmes first out of Rainy Pass
