PETALING JAYA: Newly crowned Asian champions Pramudya Kusumawardana-Yeremia Rambitan of Indonesia will be a huge threat to the Malaysian doubles shuttlers’ hopes of winning gold in Hanoi.
The world No. 17 pair had stunned Tokyo Olympics bronze medallists Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik in the final to claim the title in Manila.
The young pair have showed steady improvement this year and reached the semi-finals of the Swiss Open before losing to Malaysia’s Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani.World No. 7 Aaron-Wooi Yik will not be defending their gold won in the last edition in 2019 as they are playing in the ongoing Thomas Cup in Bangkok.
Both pairs will be making their debuts in the biennial Games and have a tough task to stop the high-flying giant killers. In the singles, Malaysia will be represented by Jacky Kok Jing Hong, Lim Chong King, Justin Hoh and Lee Shun Yang.
