The family of a Filipino who died in the 7.8-magnitude earthquake in Turkey worried that they would not be able to view her remains before she was buried.

According to a report by Andrew Bernardo of GMA Regional TV Balitang Southern Tagalog on 24 Oras Weekend, the family of Wilma Tezcan in Ilayang Dupay, Lucena City, Quezon, was struggling to take care of the requirements for the repatriation of her body.

They were also worried that her Turkish husband might arrange for an immediate burial in Turkey, as it was the Muslim custom. “Maiuwi nang agaran, maagap ‘yung aking anak at nang hindi na magtagal doon at nang makita namin nang kabuuan ‘yung katawan niya, dito na mapalibing,” said Tezcan's father, William Abulad.

Abulad said he was shocked to find out his daughter was among the casualties in the province of Hatay, as she was residing in Istanbul.Lea Abulad, Tezcan’s mother, meanwhile believed Tezcan might have saved her elderly employer during the quake. The Department of Foreign Affairs said the Philippine government was processing the repatriation of Tezcan's remains.
