The actress, who plays Carrigstown's Mairead Casey, opens up about the drama on screen between Mairead, Tyler and Damien - she also lifts the lid on her family Christmas plans at home
Fair City’s Amy Kirwan has told how there’s “going to be lots of twists and turns” in Carrigstown this holiday season.
“Poor Damien, he’s in psychiatric hospital trying to get as much help as you can get. Mairead is kind of putting on a show for herself, and for the community, I think. Dean’s annoyed when Bosco and Renee seem to be taken in by the generosity of Tyler, and tells him that the local community is simply tolerating him.
She continued, “Dean, her very lovely friend who has been such great support for her — her idea was that she’s going to go to work, and she’s going to go back to bed for the rest of the day. That was her plan. She said, “He’s so persistent and he won’t give up. But there’s something — she’s drawn to him in a sense, as well, I think."But I think that deep down, she still thinks that he’s the killer. I think that she thinks that if, you know, ‘if I keep him on my side, I could use him to my advantage’.”
As the big day nears, Dean shares that the theme for his and Mairead’s anti-Christmas celebrations is Mexican Day of the Dead.Amy told how she was “super excited” to have Mairead be a part of Fair City ’s Christmas storylines this year. And after a rough year for Mairead, Amy also shared her hopes for the character for next year — and going forward, overall.
She said, “Everyone knows a Mairead, I think, in their life. I think audiences can relate to her at times — I mean, obviously, she has a very dramatic life and a lot of traumatic events happen throughout her life. “I mean, it was your standard come in, read with the other actors, and then there was another callback. I think it was down to like two or three of us, and then I was offered the part.”She said, “It’s weird, I know. But I think that Liana O'Cleirigh, the actress who played Laura, I think that she was always far more suited to play Laura — and I can’t see it any other way now, in hindsight.
And with the Christmas Day soaps being a tradition for many viewers, Amy also shared some of her favourite Christmas traditions.
