Kota Kinabalu: A 25-year-old factory worker was on Friday fined RM2,000 or two months jail for illegally having two Bakakuks and ammunitions without a licence.
Bede Tambayang pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to having the shotguns, two bullets and one shell casing without a valid licence on June 19 at 3.30pm, in a house at Kg Sarapung, Kolopis, Penampang.Bede was jointly accused with Michael Linsung, 32, with committing the offence under Section 8 of the Arms Act 1960, which carries a jail term of up to seven years or a fine of up to RM10,000 of both, on conviction.
In Bede’s case, the facts of the case presented by the prosecution, stated that police discovered the weapons after Michael was admitted to the hospital with a gunshot wound on his back, sustained while hunting wild animals with Bede in a forest area in Penampang.Duty counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence, representing Bede, requested a lenient sentence as it was his first offence and he works as a factory worker.
