The historic stadium underwent large scale renovation in 2017-18 to prepare for the four matches it will host during the Rugby World Cup.The swanky Toyota Stadium, another venue used during the 2002 soccer World Cup, offers fans a stunning view of the on-field action thanks to its steep stands.Kumagaya Rugby Stadium, KumagayaUsed exclusively for rugby, the stadium hosts national university championships, the annual springtime national high school tournament as well as Top League matches.

Construction of the stadium, surrounded by densely forested mountains with views of the sea, began in April 2017 and was completed a year later.Surrounded by a forest but within the cosmopolitan city of Fukuoka, the stadium is part of a larger sports complex that contains athletics, tennis and baseball venues.
