In July, RTX said microscopic contaminants were found in a powdered metal used in high-pressure turbine discs that are part of the Pratt & Whitney Geared Turbofan engine's core. Airlines, suppliers warn of hit from RTX engine snagRTX, formerly known as Raytheon, has said it will have to pull 600 to 700 of its Pratt & Whitney Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines from Airbus A320neo jets for quality inspections between 2023 and 2026 to check for a rare manufacturing flaw. RTX warns of profit hit as 600-700 GTF engines to be removed for quality checksThe quality issue relates to a rare condition in powder metal used to manufacture certain engine parts. 'The accelerated removals and incremental shop visits will result in higher aircraft on ground,' RTX said in a statement. Pratt & Whitney is also analyzing the impact of the quality issue on other engine models in its fleet, but that impact is expected to be far less, RTX said.
