The Federal Aviation Administration says the problem occurred while staff were working 'to correct synchronisation' between databases, and has 'so far found no evidence of a cyber attack'.
abc.net.au/news/us-faa-says-unintentionally-deleted-files-prompted-compute/101878616The US Federal Aviation Administration says "unintentionally deleted files" in a key computer system caused this month's groundstop, which affected more than 11,000 flights.
Acting administrator Billy Nolen is due to hold a virtual briefing on Friday local time for officials and staff, who have sought details of what went wrong with a pilot messaging database. Last week, the FAA said the computer outage of the Notice to Air Missions messaging system was caused by a procedural error related to a corrupted data file.
The FAA said it has made necessary repairs to the system and has taken steps to make the system "more resilient".The system outage occurred on January 10, but the FAA groundstop was not issued until the following morning.
