The Federal Aviation Administration placed flight restrictions over the area surrounding the Fulton County Jail in Georgia for Thursday evening.
A temporary flight restriction added to the Notice to Air Missions issued on Wednesday closes the airspace for 1 nautical mile surrounding the Fulton County Jail from 6:45 p.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern time. Former President Donald Trump is set to surrender himself to authorities in Atlanta on Thursday. The reason for the restricted airspace over the jail is"VIP Movement."
While no time has been confirmed for when Trump will surrender and be booked at the jail for racketeering charges, the restrictions may give an indication of the timetable of when he is expected to arrive at the facility. As a former president, Trump is entitled to Secret Service protection and usually has to negotiate a time to arrive at public places such as jails because of the level of security required.
Trump is expected to be fingerprinted and have a mug shot taken, with Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labat saying earlier this month that if Trump were indicted, he would be subject to"normal practices" that other indicted people undergo in the county. The former president will only be booked and will not be arraigned on Thursday, meaning he will have to return to Fulton County for his arraignment on the racketeering charges at some point in the future.
Trump was indicted on racketeering charges along with 18 other co-defendants as part of a sweeping indictment for his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election in the Peach State.
