An El Nino return to Australia after an unusual three-year-long La Nina cycle is imminent, experts warn, with this year's climate conditions marking 'unprecedented territory' for the country.
With global ocean temperatures and fluctuations in wind circulation steadily on the rise, forecasts are that Australia will experience high heat and bare minimum rainfall, contrasting the wet conditions brought on by the last unusual years-long cycle of La Nina.
Professor Mark Howden from the Australian National University’s Institute for Climate, Energy and Disaster Solutions, said with the imminent return of the climate cycle the threat of a drier-than-normal period was genuine.
