EXCLUSIVE: Jenny Owen Youngs (jennyowenyoungs) is back with ‘Avalanche,’ her first full-length album in over 10 years. Watch the premiere of a live performance of the title track here:
, her first full-length album since 2012’s. The long-awaited record is a collection that interrogates divorce, grief and the joys and heartache of learning to fall in love again. The title track has been unveiled this morning, and Youngs co-wrote it with Madi Diaz. The result is a thoughtful, introspective indie-folk track that centers Youngs’ airy, grieving vocals atop a patient, silky guitar and snare-heavy percussion.
Youngs says of “Avalanche”: “An avalanche is an extreme force, it can cause great harm, and when it’s over, you can be certain things will be different than they were before. “When it came time to name the album, this song leapt forward as the title track, because the unifying theme of this body of songs, to me, is the idea of moving from destruction to restoration, traveling through pain to possibility.
To celebrate the album’s announcement, Youngs has released a live performance of “Avalanche” with a band comprising Zach Jones, Oscar Albis Rodriguez and Peter Silberman.
