Writer JMDeMatteis rekindles the magic with Doctor Fate collaborator shawncomicart for gorgeous fantasy LAYLA IN THE LANDS AFTER, part of the creator's new 'DeMultiverse.'
In his most ambitious project yet, comic writer J.M. DeMatteis is building a shared universe, the DeMultiverse, featuring the fantasy adventure Layla in the Lands of After. DeMatteis has dedicated more than four decades of his career contributing to some of the most recognizable comics in the medium, crafting definitive works for characters like Superman for DC and Spider-Man for Marvel. Now, it is time for him to craft his own unique contributions directly out of his own mind.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY With the help of a creative team of artists on his side, DeMatteis has partnered with Spellbound Comics to create the DeMultiverse, a multiverse of his own creation. The first four offerings stretch across multiple genres and are being offered as part of a Kickstarter campaign. Backers who purchase all four will get a chance to vote on which one will be the first to continue on to a full series.

Written by J.M. DeMatteis with artwork from Shawn McManus, this is a more fantastical tale begins on a cold, unsuspected October night in 1995, during which young Layla encounters a ball of light and is whisked away to a magical land.
A Fantasy Adventure 12 Years In The Making 6 Images Close As with all of the stories in DeMatteis' DeMultiverse, this is a passion project for the writer. What distinguishes this story, in particular, is that it is a passion he shares with artist Shawn McManus. This story is one that the two have discussed collaborating on for the past 12 years, and now it is finally coming to fruition.
Given the undeniable chemistry between the two Doctor Fate collaborators, it should be safe to assume that this book is sure to yield some magical results. With a hint of mystery and a pillar of darkness beneath some deceptive whimsy, Layla in the Lands of After has the potential to be the standout story among this new multiverse that DeMatteis is building up from scratch.
