Charles succeeded his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, after her death just over a year ago.
Until now, Elizabeth is the only monarch to have appeared on Australian decimal currency, with her coronation in 1953 pre-dating the switch to dollars and cents on Valentine's Day in 1966.Coins featuring the effigy of King Charles III will circulate in Australia before the end of the year. Assistant Treasurer Andrew Leigh told ABC radio yesterday that while there was no "particular date" the first coins with Charles' face were anticipated to enter circulation, it would be before the end of 2023.
"I'm keen to make sure we get a lot of those new coins out, because I know for the vast majority of Australians, this will be the first time they hold a coin in their hand which has a King rather than a Queen on it," he said.
