Ex-Xpose presenter Peter O’Riordan reveals his 87-year-old granny still begs him to move home and "work for the county or get a job in a bank", despite his success.
He said: “It’s really funny… when I was growing up in Ireland, it was all about go to college, get a piece of paper, doesn’t matter what it is, just get your piece of paper so you have something to fall back on.. that kind of thing. After everything I’ve done in life, I’ve had a couple of different careers and whatnot….my grandmother who is 87 – love her – is still convinced I need to move home and work for the county or get a job in the bank.
“It’s just really important to touch on what you’re saying… the expectations and the pressure,” said the father-of-two. “I got let go. I was embarrassed, like. I don’t have anything else to say. Here I was, I was in LA, I had done it all. I am an Emmy-nominated entertainment news producer, I had broken into America and I had done all this. It was embarrassing for me not to excel in Ireland in my home nation, which I thought would be a lot more accepting of me and automatically, ‘you’re Irish, you're great, you’re going to be brilliant’.
