SEREMBAN: A 37-year-old former army personnel was sentenced to six years' in jail after being found guilty of two counts of acting as an intermediary for two women for the purpose of prostitution.

When delivering judgment, Madihah said the defence had failed to raise reasonable doubt in its arguments.

For the first charge, Muhamad Nizam was found guilty of acting as an intermediary for a 21-year-old woman for the purpose of prostitution at a hotel room in Taman AST at 12.05am on Jan 20 last year. For the second charge, he was accused of doing the same for a 24-year-old woman at the same place and time.

Madihah sentenced Muhamad Nizam to six years' imprisonment and four strokes of the rotan for each offence.Muhamad Nizam was charged under Section 372 of the Penal Code which provides a jail term of up to 15 years' jail, whipping and fine.
