KOTA KINABALU: A former assistant state minister is suing an army general for libel following news reports that he was detained on suspicion of being an armed intruder in waters off Semporna in Sabah.
Datuk Ramlee Marahaban, the former Bugaya assemblyman, named Armed Forces Joint Task Force2 commander Brigadier General Datuk Zarondin Md Amin in his claim.
He also named Harian Metro and its publisher New Straits Press Berhad for publishing reports about Zarondin's media statement that eventually went viral on social media. He said the media release about his arrest with four others made him look like a dangerous person involved in treasonous cross-border activities and thus damaged his reputation.
