Former Rutgers basketball star Paul Mulcahy discussed his feelings about the school publicly for the first time since he transferred to Washington.

“I love Rutgers University. I love the people there, from the support staff, academic advisors. I’ll invite all those people to my wedding. That place means so much to me and it always will. This COVID thing was janky for a lot of people. When I signed up, I pictured four years. And then there was a lot going on, and a lot of factors involved. But this was a great opportunity for me to push myself as a basketball player and see if I am who I say I am.

Mulcahy announced his intention to enter the transfer portal and play his fifth and final season of college basketball outside of Piscataway on June 9. After wrestling with the decision for a month, changing his mind a handful of times, he chose to follow in the footsteps ofHe eventually chose the Huskies over other finalists Notre Dame and Xavier; he took an official visit to all three of those schools.

“I wouldn’t say I was boxed in at Rutgers at all. At all. I just think when you play defense so hard, and the way that we would pack it in, there’s fewer possessions and things like that. So that’s just how it unfolds.
