Former members of the Australian Defence Force and war veterans can now face up to 20 years imprisonment for engaging in unauthorised operations with foreign military organisations.

Defence Minister Richard Marles will propose the new laws in parliament on Thursday, which are targeted at bolstering national security and prevent sensitive military secrets from being leaked.
