Michael 'Ozzie' Myers, a Democrat who served as a U.S. Congressman from 1976 to 1980 until he was suspended for bribery, will spend 30 months in prison for bribing election officials between 2014 and 2018.
A federal judge has sentenced a former U.S. congressman to 30 years in prison for stuffing ballots for Democratic candidates during elections from 2014-18 in Philadelphia.
Myers, a Democrat, served as a congressman from 1976-80. He was expelled from the House of Representatives in 1980 for bribery in connection to theMyers admitted to bribing the Judge of Elections in the 39th Ward, 36th Division in South Philadelphia over several years in June 2022, Romero said. He also bribed those election officials to illegally add votes for certain candidates in primary elections, some of whom had hired Myers, Romero said.
He also admitted to conspiring to commit election fraud with a former judge of elections in the 29th Ward and 2nd Division in South Philadelphia, Romero said. He gave them directions to add votes to candidates he supported, including candidates who had hired Myers, according to Romero.
