This story is part of the Digital Trends Summer Gaming Marathon series The second Nintendo Direct of the year is finally upon us, and it’s shaping up to be a big one for Nintendo Switch players. Not only will we probably get new information on soon-to-be-released exclusives like Pikmin 4, Everybody 1-2-Switch!, and Disney Illusion Island, but this is also a prime opportunity for Nintendo to finally reveal what’s coming to the Switch during the back half of 2023.

As the show will last about 40 minutes, quickly going through announcements, it might be tough for some of you to keep track of all the games shown this early in the morning. There’s no need to worry about that, though, as we’ll be doing a live recap of everything announced during the June 2023 Nintendo Direct right here.
We got our first deep dive into Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s expansions Watch the New Trailer for The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero! To kick off the Nintendo Direct, Nintendo gave us an in-depth look at the upcoming expansion Pokemon Scarlet and Violet expansions The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk. We see tons of new Pokemon like Gligar, new characters players will come across like Carmine and Cryano, and many of the vibrant new locales players will be able to visit.
Detective Pikachu Returns comes out in October Detective Pikachu Returns - Nintendo Direct 6.21.2023 First announced all the way back in May 2019, we finally got a look at the next Detective Pikachu game. We get new looks at Tim Goodman and the titular Pikachu, who are solving a mystery involving Mewtwo during what’s supposed to be a Friendship week. Titled Detective Pikachu Returns, it will be released on October 6.
Super Mario RPG is getting a remake Super Mario RPG - Nintendo Direct 6.21.2023 Nintendo confirmed that SNES classic Super Mario RPG is getting a remake for Nintendo Switch. We see lots of classic characters reenvisioned in a new, more modern chibi style; still, it looks quite faithful to the original release and retains the same turn-based combat of the original. It will be released on November 17.
