“This is critically important when you realize that there are tens of thousands of shipwrecks from World War II, many of which sank with toxic chemicals and fuel oil on board,” The U.S. Coast Guard said the total search area completed as of Tuesday morning was about 10,000 square miles, with more resources on the way.Multiple vessels are continuing to look for the sub on the ocean surface, and a Canadian aircraft is now helping with sonar.“Everybody here at the Port [of Everett] is very supportive of them and our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families right now as they fight the boundary of what technology can do,” Dennis explained.
