San Antonio drought can destabilize a home's foundation

happening right beneath their feet. To be more specific, it's taking place in the soil underneath their houses.

Chamberlain said calls to his firm about concrete foundation problems are up 35 percent this summer. The drought doesn’t play as much of a factor in pier-and-beam houses, he said. These homes are elevated on wood posts or concrete piers that, driven deep into the ground, are less likely to shift even during severe drought.

The good news, say these and other experts, is there are steps homeowners can take to prevent or minimize the damage caused by an unstable foundation. Bond estimated such a set up would cost between $3,000 and $6,000, including materials and labor, depending on the size of the house.
