City Council decided dogs will be allowed at the beach at their own risk, meaning the city will not be enforcing any vaccine requirements or a consistent staff presence. Cook County requires that dog parks require owners to provide proof of necessary vaccinations, which City Council decided it will temporarily turn a blind eye to.“I support getting the beach open as soon as possible in a sort of laissez-faire way. At your own risk,” Ald. Claire Kelley said at the Oct. 10 City Council meeting.
City Council also decided to revisit ways to make the dog beach American Disabilities Act compliant in 2023. “Please no consultants,” she said. “This beach has been there forever … I don’t see to open this stretch of land that we have to hire a consultant. We have plenty of community members to help out and pitch in.”
