The European Union has reactivated its civilian mission to oversee the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt. This crucial development comes as a result of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. The mission aims to facilitate the movement of individuals, particularly those requiring medical attention, out of Gaza.

The health ministry of Hamas-run Gaza said the first Palestinians - injured civilians and militant fighters - would enter Egypt on Saturday via the Rafah crossing, which has been shut to human traffic since last May. People will only be allowed to travel in one direction, from Gaza to Egypt, for the time being, officials said. Kallas announced on Monday there was broad agreement among member states that the EU Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM) could play a “decisive role” in supporting the ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas. “The EU’s civilian border mission deploys today (Friday) to the Rafah Crossing at the request of the Palestinians and the Israelis. It will support Palestinian border personnel and allow the transfer of individuals out of Gaza, including those who need medical care,“ she posted on X.The crossing will now be run by members of the Palestinian Authority and European monitors, PA and Hamas officials said. It will be opened initially for 50 injured militants and 50 wounded civilians, along with the people escorting them, the officials said, adding that a further 100 people, most likely students, would be allowed through on humanitarian grounds. Gaza’s health ministry said the transportation of patients from two hospitals in the north and south of the enclave would be coordinated with the World Health Organization. A civilian EU mission to help monitor the Rafah crossing began work there in 2005 but was suspended in June 2007 after Hamas, a militant Islamist group, took over the Gaza Strip.Italy has said it will send seven paramilitary Carabinieri officers to the Rafah mission in addition to two Italians already there, while Germany’s interior and foreign ministries are also discussing sending a contingent

Israel Intensifies Attacks in Northern Gaza, Killing at Least 25 PalestiniansIsrael Intensifies Attacks in Northern Gaza, Killing at Least 25 PalestiniansIsraeli forces have intensified their attacks in northern Gaza, including in the Shejaia area and outskirts of Gaza City, resulting in at least 25 Palestinian deaths. The air strikes destroyed targeted areas, but there was no immediate statement from the Israeli military regarding the incident or the identities of the victims. Meanwhile, in al-Buriej, central Gaza, Israeli forces targeted a fighter alleged to be operating in an area that launched rockets into Israel the previous day. Following a warning from the Israeli military, residents were ordered to evacuate before the attack. According to the Palestinian news agency Wafa, two people were reported killed in the al-Buriej attack, while 15 more died in an air strike in Jabalia. However, there was no immediate confirmation from Gaza health officials. The Israeli military claimed the attacks targeted Hamas fighters. Northern Gaza, including Beit Hanoun, Jabalia, and Beit Lahiya, is now nearly completely destroyed after residents were evacuated. There are speculations that the Zionist regime aims to make the area a buffer zone after the conflict ends, although Israel denies these claims. The Israeli military campaign in Gaza has claimed the lives of over 45,500 Palestinians, according to health officials in the Hamas-controlled area. Nearly the entire 2.3 million population of Gaza is now displaced, with a large part of the territory devastated.
