Big crowds sample the flavors of many of the countries represented by the International Cottages in Balboa Park as the 40th Ethnic Food Fare returns after pandemic hiatus
Every cultural dish has a story behind it. Sharing those stories — and the food — brings people together.
“It is very popular in Hungary,” said Bea Szopko, youth program director for the House of Hungary. “It’s a street food, and it came from rural areas in the past. You can buy it only in Hungary or at the food fair here.” “It is just to showcase our cottages and get people to come through and see what we do and what we represent,” said Mike Salazar, publicity chairman for the event. “And it’s also to fundraise. We’re a nonprofit organization. Our biggest event is December nights. This is our second biggest event.”
