Environmental Quality Act 1974 may be reviewed, says PM

This follows an outcry from the public that the punishment for those found guilty for offences under the Act are not severe enough. Three suspects have been detained by the Department of Environment under Section 34B of the Environmental Quality Act 1974 in connection with the contamination. They face a maximum jail sentence of five years and a maximum fine of RM500,000, if convicted.
