When approached by The Irish Mirror, Mr Burke said he 'detests prison'

A defiant Enoch Burke says he will continue to stand outside a secondary school front door in Co Westmeath because “this is where I work” yet he 'detests prison'.

Mr Burke continues to be paid a full salary from Wilson’s Hospital School as an appeal against the school board’s decision to dismiss him remains live. “The school and the courts are denying me those rights. That’s the thing. I did my duty here. I have to do what’s right. I am at work. Thank you for coming to speak to me.”

Mr Burke’s return to the school gates on Thursday and again on Friday comes less than two months after the High Court released him from Mountjoy Prison where he spent more than 400 days for not obeying a court order to stay away from the school. The judge stated that following a review of the situation and the fact State examinations were completed and the school was on holidays, he directed the teacher’s release.
