Labuschagne and Smith's double-failures at Edgbaston marked the first time both had been dismissed for under 20 twice in the same match, despite Australia going on to win. Labuschagne made a point to downplay those suggestions this week, while also altering his technique to get rid of the shuffle across the crease he used at Edgbaston.
"We won't be reading too much into it but it's nice knowing there might be something there for Marnus."The duo has batted every day available to them in the lead up to tonight's Test, returning to the nets on Saturday alongside reserve members of the squad. Tongue was earlier this month likened to Scott Boland by Labuschagne, but England want him for his pace rather than his control in London.With out-and-out quick Mark Wood still on ice until the third Test at Headingley and Jofra Archer out for the series, Tongue is the fastest bowler left in England's squad.
