The vote was unanimous, 15 to 0.

The employees at the Denow Road store in Mercer County voted unanimously — 15 to 0 — to join Workers United Monday. The National Labor Relations Board, which conducted the election, counted the mail-in ballots at 10 a.m., according to Workers United.

“This victory is a result of Hopewell baristas standing strong together after facing aggressive union busting by Starbucks,” Sara Mughal, a barista and member of the organizing committee, stated in a release. “Our landslide win today only further proves that if Starbucks wants to listen to their partners, “they will respect our decision and come to our bargaining table in good faith.”Elections are underway for two other Starbucks locations in New Jersey: Summit and Hamilton.

The organizing committee at the Hopewell Starbucks previously said they experienced intimidation tactics by management, including captive audience meetings, misleading flyers, and cuts to working hours, which impacts healthcare benefits. “We stand in solidarity with Starbucks workers seeking to organize in our state and our communities,” said U.S. Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman, D-12th Dist. “New Jersey is stronger when workers have a collective voice in their pay and working conditions.”

Thirty Starbucks stores have voted to unionize nationwide, including in New York, Arizona, Colorado, Tennessee, Washington, Virginia, Oregon, and Pennsylvania. More than 200 other stores have petitioned the NLRB for elections to join Workers United, according to a release.
