Nearly 40,000 fans were expected to attend the Auckland concert but the revellers were informed less than 30 minutes before the show was set to begin as it was too unsafe to proceed.
The 75-year-old was scheduled to perform at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland on Friday night as part of his Farwell Yellow Brick Road tour but the show was cancelled last-minuteNearly 40,000 revellers were expected to attend the event, with many already in their seats despite the torrential rain. An Elton John spokesperson then appeared on stage and said it was “far too dangerous” for the show to proceed.

The announcement was met with yells of frustration from the crowd while many complained about the late cancellation and difficulties getting home due to road closures and not enough public transport.
