Twitter headquarters on April 27, 2022 in San Francisco, California. Billionaire Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and Space X, reached an agreement to purchase social media platform Twitter for $44 billion. When a photo appeared online last week showing the ‘W’ covered up on the sign outside Twitter’s headquarters in San Francisco, many assumed it was a photoshopped image.
“Our landlord at SF HQ says we’re legally required to keep sign as Twitter & cannot remove ‘w’, so we painted it background color. Problem solved!” Musk tweeted on Sunday with aMusk has previously made jokes about calling Twitter by “Titter,” even taking a poll back in April 2022 asking his followers if the company. Musk didn’t own the company at that point, but was starting to make moves to acquire the social media platform.
Musk has courted controversy even since he bought the company in October 2022, first by laying off thousands of people, then instituting changes at Twitter that he saw as liberating. But detractors have insisted Musk has made the website worse, and has scared off advertisers in the process.
