A new electricity tariff ( RP4 ) has been approved for Peninsular Malaysia , effective from July 1st, 2025. This tariff increase, set at 14%, aims to support essential investments by Tenaga Nasional Berhad ( TNB ) to ensure a continuous and reliable electricity supply. While many anticipate a 14% rise in electricity bills, it's crucial to note that the base tariff for domestic users remains unchanged since 2014. The RP4 covers the period from January 1st, 2025, to December 31st, 2027.
Any differences in tariff from January to June 2025 will be funded through the Kumpulan Wang Industri Elektrik (KWIE). TNB emphasizes that the RM42.821 billion total allowed capital expenditure (CAPEX) for RP4 will bring significant economic benefits, stimulating the nation's economy and preparing the electricity network for the energy transition agenda. The Imbalance Cost Pass-Through (ICPT) mechanism, which reflects changes in fuel and other generation-related costs every six months, will continue to be implemented. This means that consumers will benefit from rebates if fuel prices drop and face surcharges if they rise.
