Painam Mat Karim, 76, a widow, has been tapping rubber for over 64 years to support herself, earning only RM150 to RM200 per month. She taps a 0.6-hectare family plot, selling the rubber to collectors in the area. The income fluctuates based on weather, and she relies on the support of her nieces and nephews for groceries and utilities.

Katanya, dia menoreh di kawasan kebun seluas 0.6 hektar bersendirian yang hasilnya getah sekerap dijual kepada peraih sekitar daerah ini. “Mujur, saya menoreh di kebun peninggalan keluarga, tidak seperti mereka yang menoreh getah di kebun dipajak pemiliknya yang hasilnya perlu dibahagi-bahagikan,” katanya ketika ditemui di Kampung Haji Dahalan di sini.
“Memang jika difikirkan tidak cukup tetapi ada dua orang anak saudara perempuan yang saya pelihara sejak kecil yang bekerja dan membantu daripada segi membeli barangan dapur dan bayaran utiliti kerana tinggal bersama saya.
