: A woman senior citizen lost RM584,000 after being duped by a “phone scam” syndicate, early last month.

He said the victim was then contacted by an individual posing as a police officer from the north of the country to inform her that there was a bank account opened in the victim’s name in the state, but she denied it. “The victim was then ordered to transfer money from several of her other savings accounts to the bank account that was handed over, amounting to almost RM600,000 for ‘investigation’,“ he said in a statement today.

“The victim suspected that she had been cheated before making a police report last Monday and the case was investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code,“ he said.
