Jee Koon Hua, 89, is now recovering from a hip reconstruction and replacement surgery after a bad fall at home in Bukit Mertajam, Penang. His friend Robert Teh, 65, a part-time lecturer, said Jee was struggling to pay the bills as he had no savings.“He is still warded at the hospital on Penang island. After his discharge from the hospital, Jee is required to stay at a convalescent home for at least three months for better care and assistance.
“We hope that the public can help to pay for his hospital and surgery bills,” he said, adding that Jee also had a hip replacement after a fall some 10 years ago. Teh said Jee, who is single and staying alone, was rushed to the Bukit Mertajam Hospital after the incident.“The niece then rushed over to see him.“Only a few private hospitals were willing to carry out the operation due to his advanced age.
“He was then transferred to a private hospital on Penang island on Aug 2 and was successfully operated on. “Before this, he was in great pain and in a state of confusion due to his age,” he said in a phone interview on Wednesday. When contacted, Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim said he would visit Jee and see how he could assist.
