COLLEGE STATION — Texas A&M basketball has made its Thanksgiving weekend plans, and they include facing a solid field in the ESPN Events Invitational in Orlando, Fla., as A&M coach Buzz Williams continues bolstering the Aggies’ nonconference schedule.
The field includes Final Four participant Florida Atlantic along with Virginia Tech, Iowa State, Penn State, Boise State, Virginia Commonwealth and Butler. Only Virginia Tech and Butler did not make the 68-team NCAA Tournament last season. Penn State defeated A&M in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa, in March. The 12-game invitational begins on Thanksgiving Day at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World. The last two undefeated teams will play a title game on the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend .
In addition, the Aggies have received a verbal pledge from forward George Turkson of Haverhill, Mass., for the class of 2024. Turkson is ranked 87th nationally. Finally, A&M has announced the addition of guard Eli Lawrence from Middle Tennessee State. Lawrence , who is eligible to play for the Aggies in 2023-24, was a second-team Conference USA selection after leading the Blue Raiders with 12.2 points per game. He has one year of eligibility remaining and joins fellow transfer guard Jace Carter with the Aggies. Carter will be a junior.
