Police in Penang, Malaysia, arrested eight individuals - two employees of a telecommunications company and six subcontractors - for stealing over three tons of copper cables. The suspects, aged 31 to 42, were apprehended while cutting cables at the roadside. Investigations revealed that the suspects presented fraudulent work orders, but Telekom Malaysia confirmed no permission for cable cutting in the area. The police seized 242 cut cables, three vehicles, and various tools used in the theft. Four suspects have prior criminal records related to drugs and gambling.

Terdahulu katanya, sepasukan pegawai dan anggota dari Bahagian Siasatan Jenayah Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah Timur Laut bergegas ke lokasi sebaik sahaja menerima maklumat mengenai kejadian itu dan terserempak dengan sekumpulan individu sedang memotong kabel di tepi jalan. “Namun, siasatan lanjut dan pengesahan bersama wakil TM mendapati, tiada kebenaran kerja pemotongan kabel diberikan di kawasan berkenaan,” katanya dalam sidang akhbar di sini, hari ini.
Jelas Abdul Rozak, semakan mendapati, empat daripada lapan suspek mempunyai rekod jenayah lampau berkaitan dadah dan ketum, manakala selebihnya tidak memiliki sebarang rekod lampau khususnya berkaitan jenayah.
